The initial model was set up in Sketchup. After setting up the sketchup model, I brought the file into Adobe Photoshop to start working with Photoshop.
The following two images show the development of the model in Photoshop. I also use the Photoshop Air Brush tool to give a quick spot color to the model.
Once the Air Brush makes a spot color that I like, I use the Gradient Map tool to place a gradient over the object to create a more natural look.
When this is done, I print a color photograph of the model and print it onto a larger piece of paper. I then trace a silhouette of the model, and cut out the edges of the paper.
After the model is dry, I place the photos of the shadow images into individual folders for each texture.
This is a photograph of the model before it is painted. I also placed a sheet of white paper behind the model so that I could set up the light for the photograph.
Again, I used Photoshop to place the shadows to the side of the model.
A quick look at the model before any brushes are applied.
Once the lights are set up, it is time to start work on the shadows.
In Photoshop, I started with a simple black and white photo of the model.
I then opened the Photoshop layer and adjusted the layer to have no transparency. Once I got everything out of the way, I created a new layer and started painting the colors of the model.
I painted in the textures, kept them separate layers, and moved them around. I added many different textures to the model so that I could create the look that I wanted.
To keep the colors of the model separate, I added many layers and tinted them in the new layer.
This is a photo of the finished model before it was set up in Sketchup. The final model is 14 inches tall.
