A solo recording. Tom Griesgraber plays original harp compositions for solo harp without a bass or any other instrument. Each piece takes the harp in surprising directions with a fusion of styles and experimental settings. All compositions are written for harps in A minor or major, with the exception of the track, "Migas", which is in A major. Originally released by Wayne Static's Darkstone Records and re-issued by the Hal Leonard Masterworks label.
Tom Griesgraber's second solo release. Tom's compositions are easy to relate to his growing body of work with his own instrument, the ECM harp. Each uses an original solo instrumental setting. Credit is given to John Carpenter for providing the title track, "Southern" for inspiration.
David Thayer was a software engineer for the U.S. Air Force, using a Digital Harmonix SH-10 between 1985 and 1993. He used the SH-10 to arrange a load of ancient Japanese Satsuma and Shinko music into a form based on that of the harp keyboards of the 1300s and 1400s. He recorded all the parts and organized them into traditional Japanese music format, publishing the entire work on CD. In addition to the tracks on the original release, two additional tracks were included on the re-release to expand the total playing time to 52 minutes. The additional tracks follow the five pieces of the original release.total time: 113:02
In late 1991 he formed a group dubbed Harmonica Quartet which includes a percussionist, trombonist and bassist.
