Abstract:The Roy Adaptation Model of Nursing was introduced by Sister Callista Roy in 1970. The model is a metaparadigm and it is one of the most widely used nursing concepts. In the Roy Adaptation Model, individual adaptation is defined as the process and the outcome of interaction between each individual and the environment. In other words, the model means that nursing process is, in a way, the care based on adaptation.Purpose:The purpose of the study is to present the Roy Adaptation Model and its application for nursing education. The model is the background for the thesis and the rationale for my three-year experience as a nurse in the areas of maternity, pediatrics, and neonatology. The thesis is the result of years of practice and research.Research Questions:What are nursing students learning in the nursing program? What are my expectations of future nursing students when entering the program? Methods:The study is a qualitative study. In this type of study, the researcher provides data and interpretation and then the results of the study are discussed with the participants. The study participants include nurse professors, nurse instructors, and students in the selected nursing program. The participants were selected from the Nursing Faculty of Holy Family University, which has one of the largest nursing programs in Iran. Results:The participants had the following views regarding nursing students. In general, the participants emphasized the importance of learning the knowledge and skills students needed during their education, as well as developing their skills and abilities to perform nursing care. However, the participants expressed that they were not familiar with the attitudes and behaviors of nursing students. Conclusions:In conclusion, I think the Roy Adaptation Model has great potential to address the question I intended to investigate, that is, what is the goal of the nursing education. I believe that the Roy Adaptation Model is compatible with the goals of the nursing education, especially in a nursing program that is required to prepare the nursing students for various roles in the future.REFERENCESAlligood, M.
